so if i go on a long walk through the woods and climb a multi-pitch climb, would this be alpine climbing? how far away does it have to be from a road and does rock quality have anything to do it for it to be called alpine.

what is alpine climbing?

I just did a search on "Pink" and all that comes up is spray.

I beleive Feck coined the term "God Boy".
It seems more appropriate.
Especially on this thread.
Which was done less than a year ago.

I couldn't find it.
I entered "Alpine" and came up with 12 pages.
Anyway, I was just poking you in the eye because you usually come back with something colorful.
Now I feel bad for hurting your feelings.
So hear is my stab.

Were you wet sometimes?
Did you have to bushwhack to get to the base?
Were you eventually higher than most of the terrain you could see?
Did some of the holds fall off and nearly hit you or your partner?
Did you carry a pack?
Did you wish you had brought an ice ax?
Did you have to bivy?

I would consider it alpine climbing. I think the determination of alpine vs. crag boils down to the roman numeral grade, the level of commitment required.

If you use one of these, then you are a boulderer posing as a sport climber.

You can still rappel off a figure 8, you can't with this new ATC sport.

Alpine means climbing a peak using ropes and gear.
Some would say that a hike up a peak is alpine.
Some would say that climbing at Index in bad weather is alpine.
Both would be a stretch.
Alpine is upper elevations (realative term).
After climbing Champagne on Snow Creek wall with AlpineFox, we also did the sawtooth ridge to get to the top of OuterSpace.
AF referred to it as "having and alpine feel". There were loose sections, lichen, we were on top of a ridge, and we were roped in. We did not have pons, ax, bivy gear but those are often included in alpine climbing.
