Ruth & Sahale - Standard 8/4/2008
Trip: Ruth & Sahale - Standard
Date: 8/4/2008
Trip Report:An Oregonian's first trip to the North Cascades:
On Monday August 4 I bivouacked on the summit of Ruth Mountain. The weather was perfect and the views were some of the best I have ever seen. I had the place all to myself and was treated to shooting stars and the sounds of avalanches on Mt. Shuksan during the night. What a spectacular place to spend the night!
I headed down the next morning and drove to Cascade Pass to climb Sahale Peak. I was a little tired from Ruth and thought about taking a rest day to explore the Ross Lake area by car but decided to go ahead and do a day climb of Sahale in the morning. It was a good thing I did this because high clouds rolled in the afternoon I was up there and from what I've seen in other TR's it got a little nasty. This too was an amazing climb with great views. I met a lot of great people on the trail including a nice girl from the park service who warned me against eating at the restaurants in Marblemount. Go Darrington!
All in all, a fantastic trip that lived up to and surpassed my high expectations. I will definitely be back next summer.
